Why I Decided to Become a Teacher

I decided to become a teacher because of my love for children. My desire is to make a difference in their lives and be a good role model for them to look up to. Another reason is because I have a desire to help children fully understand what they are learning, instead of them going through a class frustrated and lost. I hope to be a teacher that all my students will like and learn a lot from. Even though it can be a very challenging job in many ways, I know there are many rewards that teachers receive when they know they have made a lasting impact on a child’s life for the better.

A teacher can make all the difference in the world when it comes to a class. I have had such a great experience in school because of the great teachers I have had. There are some classes I like or dislike simply based on whether or not I had a good teacher. My favorite teachers are the ones who have taken an interest in my learning and really helped guide me along. The qualities I consider very important for a teacher to have are nice, friendly, approachable, personable, reasonable, knowledgeable, good at explaining things, challenging but not incredibly hard, and flexible. Teachers need to be able to understand and relate to their students, while maintaining their position of authority that the students need to respect. I strive to emulate these qualities as a future teacher. I believe I possess many of these qualities already, and I hope to acquire and develop the others.

I have mixed feelings about my future career as a teacher and all that it means. I love children and am very excited to work with students in a classroom. I love teaching and helping kids learn whenever I can. Occasionally I have my doubts about my own personal abilities, and often worry about if I have what it takes. However, I am going to try my best to persevere and overcome these doubts and insecurities, and step forward with confidence that I can and will do it. Despite my occasional doubts, I still know that teaching is the career for me. When it all comes down to it, it is all about the students. They are the reason why I am going into teaching.
